Last year, I tried my first chia seed drink and absolutely
loved it! So when I stumbled across WOW
juices, I just knew I had to try them.
There are three chia-packed drinks in their 250ml ‘Nutrition Boost’ range:
- Orange, Carrot and Mango
- Apple, Spinach and Kiwi
- Watermelon and Pomegranate
All three drinks are cold-pressed, making them one of your 5
a day, and boast being a source of three key nutritional qualities: protein,
omega 3 and high-fibre – definitely a nutrition boost!
Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to grab an Apple, Spinach and
Kiwi juice but I am sharing my thoughts on the other two flavours with you all.
Packaging
Simple yet effective.
The bold and colourful branding of WOW really catches your eye and has a
hippy-inspired style. You’ll also notice
that each WOW logo is coloured differently on each product. I think the see-through labels are
great! They contain only the
need-to-know information, allowing you to read all the necessities quickly and
easily without having to squint through rows of text. The plastic bottle itself also feels thicker
than regular bottles, giving the products a high-quality feel.
Watermelon & Pomegranate
This drink smells like summer! The sweet watermelon aroma hits you as soon
as you open the bottle, with subtle notes of pomegranate coming through,
too. The juice looks thick, perhaps
because of the chia seeds, but the texture is thinner than expected. It is made from apple, watermelon and
pomegranate juices, as well as blackcurrant pulp and chia seeds (obvs).
Although it is a drink, my natural instinct is to chew with
every mouthful due to the quantity of chia seeds packed inside. That said, the seeds themselves are very soft
– almost like small, raspberry pips. I
don’t mind them but if you’re not a fan of bitty drinks, I would give this one
a miss as you are left picking a couple of seeds from your teeth
afterwards.
The watermelon juice makes the drink quite sweet but served
cold, it is the perfect refreshment and really quenches your thirst.
Orange, Carrot & Mango
This bottle contains nothing but the labelled ingredients; it
is made up of orange and carrot juices, chia seeds and mango pulp. For any maths geeks: don’t look too hard at
the ingredients list percentages – they add up to 100.1%. It must be that extra chia seed that snuck in
at the end of bottling…
This juice has a strong orange zest aroma and is thicker than
the other juice. It has a smoothie-like
texture and so the chia seeds are not as obvious in this drink as they were in
the other – no need to chew!
Although this juice is not as refreshing as the Watermelon
& Pomegranate, I think the flavour balance is perfect as you can taste each
individual fruit, rather than just a tropical combination. This is definitely my favourite out of the
two products :)
A big thanks to the WOW team for letting me sample their products and I look forward to their new reveal!
Always remember to…
Live life in
the WOW.
